Small screen role for SCAA crew

Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) played a starring role in a 10-part TV documentary series highlighting the life-saving work of Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) paramedics.

"Paramedics On Scene" launched on Sunday, September 29 on BBC Scotland at 9pm, with episodes now available on the BBC iPlayer.

Given unprecedented access to the service, the series of one hour shows follows paramedics in a variety of roles - from land ambulance crew to special operations staff and air ambulance paramedics - as they face life or death emergency situations on a daily basis, wherever they are needed.

Over the course of the series, viewers saw SCAA paramedics in action at a variety of emergencies - ranging from a call to assist a SAS Special Operations Response Team with a patient on a remote hillside to a quad bike accident in the countryside.

Each episode features extraordinary stories from across the country, with the cameras following divisional ambulances responding to high-pressure 999 calls, 24 hours a day. The call-outs range from air-ambulances required in the Highlands and Islands, bringing treatment to Scotland’s remotest communities, to city centre car smashes and dealing onsite with life-threatening sepsis.

This is the first time SCAA has featured in a sustained role in a documentary series and marks a major milestone for all involved.

The charity was delighted to host producers and camera crew from Scottish-based production company Firecrest Films throughout the filming of the series.

The Helimed 76 crew was proud to feature alongside their SAS colleagues as the series captured the hugely demanding and often harrowing work of Scotland's paramedics in their diverse and challenging roles.

The series aired each Sunday evening at 9pm on BBC Scotland, (repeated on Tuesdays at 11pm on BBC Scotland), with each episode subsequently available on the BBC iPlayer.

As well as the BBC iPlayer, BBC Scotland is available on the following channels:
