Mission Review

Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance operates two helicopter air ambulances - Helimed 76 based in Perth and Helimed 79 based in Aberdeen. Often working with local first responders, our crews are regularly tasked to some of Scotland's remotest communities, including her many islands. Here are just some of the emergency call outs we've responded to recently.

SCAA’s speed recently proved vital when a local GP in Aberdeenshire called for assistance with a patient suffering a stroke. Our air ambulance quickly flew the patient to critical care at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in just minutes.

SCAA's Helimed 79 air ambulance recently airlifted a specialist trauma team to the scene of an industrial accident near Inverurie to ensure advanced care at the scene as quickly as possible. A woodworker suffered chest injuries in the accident and SCAA paramedics assisted trauma team colleagues at the scene before the injured woman was taken to hospital.

SCAA, local first responders and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel all raced to help a man who collapsed while out walking on the island of Lismore recently. SCAA then airlifted the patient to specialist cardiac care at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank - a flight of just 30 minutes for a journey that would have taken hours by road and ferry.

SCAA's Helimed 76 air ambulance recently flew to the scene of a cycling accident in Peterhead where a man suffered chest injuries. SCAA paramedics worked alongside colleagues from the local trauma team and a land ambulance crew before the patient was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A woman suffering a heart attack was rapidly airlifted by SCAA from the Fraserburgh area to critical hospital care recently. The flight to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary took just over 15 minutes compared to the equivalent road journey of around 50 minutes.
