Mission Review

Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance operates two helicopter air ambulances - Helimed 76 based in Perth and Helimed 79 based in Aberdeen. Tasked through Scotland's 999 emergency response network, here are just some of the call outs we've responded to recently.

Our Helimed 76 crew responded to a young man who had sustained arm injuries when he rolled his off-road buggy in a field near Leven. Helimed 76 was quickly on the scene to attend the injured man before he was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Further north, SCAA's Helimed 79 recently landed on a football field in a village near Turriff to bring rapid emergency medical care to a woman. Our paramedics attended the patient before she was transferred to hospital by road ambulance, freeing up Helimed 79 for other calls.

In the east of Scotland, two emergencies in one day in Fife saw SCAA fly to woodland near Falkland and a farm near St Andrews. Heimed 76 landed in a clearing near a woodland trail where a walker had fallen and sustained leg injuries. Paramedics worked with Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues at the scene before the injured woman was taken to Ninewells Hospital. Then Helimed 76 was deployed to a man suffering severe chest pains, with SCAA paramedics working with a local first responder before the patient was taken to hospital.

When a woman fell on the slopes of Bennachie breaking her leg, SCAA's Helimed 79 was able to land close by and - with the help of supportive bystanders - stretcher the woman to our air ambulance and airlift her to hospital care in Aberdeen.

A lone motorcyclist injured when he slewed off the road in remote Glen Quaich was spotted by a passing motorist who called the emergency services. Helimed 76 was already in the air nearby, returning to base from an earlier mission, and landed on the roadway beside the accident scene. The injured man was then airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital.
