Bristow Captain takes on the Devil of Deeside for SCAA

This year, SCAA charity partner Bristow is entering a team at Run Balmoral - one of the best running events in the north east of Scotland. Held on the beautiful Balmoral Estate, a few hardy souls can choose to take on an epic challenge named "The Devil of Deeside". One member of the Bristow Team, Captain Lars Brazier, has decided he's ready to dance with the devil in a bid to raise vital funds for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance. Can Captain Lars beat the devil? We ask the man himself:

So what is the Devil of Deeside?

It’s the combination of all the races at the Run Balmoral. So to complete ‘the Devil’ I’ll be running the 10k, the 5k, the duathlon and, of course the Bristow 15 Mile Trail race over the two-day event.

What’s motivating you?

I have taken part in the 15-mile event a few times before and have seen some of the people running the Devil of Deeside - it just looked like a lot of fun!

But a lot of work too?

Hah! Yeah, it’s quite a commitment. To be honest, the thing I’m most worried about is how my legs will feel at the start of the 15-mile trail run. It’s immediately after the duathlon, which is an 11k run and a 16k mountain bike race – and I’m not much of a cyclist!

So how is the training coming along?

Slowly! Work and family life, as well as dark evenings, means it can be tricky to find the time. But I’m lucky to live near Forvie Nature Reserve, which is a great place to run, so I try and get out there as much as I can.

What about the cycle training?

So how do you rate your chances?

Well, I’m unlikely to reach the podium, but I just hope I enjoy it all and manage to raise some funds for SCAA in the process.  Run Balmoral is a tremendous event and SCAA is a really worthy cause, so I’m looking forward to it – with some trepidation!
