Mike Beale

Trustee

Mike spent 28 years as the Headmaster of Craigclowan School in Perth. Following his retirement in 2007, he became President of the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce. He was Chairman of Peak Leaders UK, a training company based in Strathmiglo for 10 years and is currently Chairman of the Management Board of Algo, a building company based in Perth. He runs his own consultancy, specialising in mentoring, appraisal and business development. Currently, his clients include schools in England and a Chinese group with educational interests in the UK and China. He also works with a Ski school based in Courchevel in France.

During his career, Mike has had unique professional development opportunities which have resulted in the award of the highly prestigious Churchill Fellowship in 1991 and an English Speaking Union Walter Hinds Page Scholarship in 2001.

He was elected Chairman of the International Association of Preparatory Schools in 1994/5 and uniquely, for the Head of a Scottish school, Mike was re-elected in 2005/6. He served for 17 years on the Managing Board of the Scottish Council of Independent Schools and also sat on the Board of the Independent Schools Council in London. He has served as a Governor of several schools, as a trustee of St. John’s Kirk and Horsecross Arts and currently sits on the managing committee of Blairgowrie Golf Club and the Perth City Development Board.

Paul Bassett

Trustee

Paul Bassett QAM, Chief Operating Officer (Deputy Chief Executive), joined the Scottish Ambulance Service in June 2012 as Divisional General Manger for Lothian and Borders. Prior to his appointment, he held numerous posts with the East Anglian and East of England Ambulance Services NHS Trust for over 17 years. This was preceded by nine years’ service with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was awarded the Queens Ambulance Medal in the 2016 New Year’s Honours.

Joyce Leslie

Trustee

Joyce has 40 years experience in business management across various industries from new venture start up to growing national companies. With extensive knowledge and expertise in property management in both the commercial and residential sector, Joyce was instrumental in welcoming SCAA to their base at Perth Airport.

This involved ensuring there was suitable office accommodation for the staff team and an appropriate hangar and landing area for the helicopter was available.

Joyce is an active local fundraiser in the Tayside area for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres as well as SCAA.

Carol Sinclair

Trustee

Carol is a highly experienced senior leader and manager with significant experience in leading and overseeing of the design and delivery of data and digital solutions for the NHS in Scotland. Following retirement from her role as a Chief Officer in Public Health Scotland in summer 2022, she has taken up a part-time role as Strategic Data Adviser to the Digital Health and Care Directorate in the Scottish Government and chairs the national Health & Social Care Data Board.

Jan Cutting

Trustee

Jan is a Marketing, PR, Communications and Fundraising Executive who currently holds the role of Director of Membership, Marketing and Communications with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Prior to this, Jan has worked across a range of sectors including advertising, technology, media, academia and the charity sector.

Alastair Couper

Trustee

Alastair was the Chief Financial Officer at Edinburgh Airport for seven years, retiring in 2021. Prior to that, Alastair was Finance Director in a wide range of businesses across many sectors including health, facilities management, oil services and aviation.
Alastair is also a Board member at SEStran, which oversees the development of transport strategy for South East Scotland.

Helen Page

Trustee

Helen has over 30 years experience across the financial services, retail, charity and food and drinks sectors. She is an experienced PLC Executive, Non Executive Director and Board Chair. Helen is also a Non Executive Director of Bank of Ireland UK, The Artisanal Spirits Company, The Scottish FA and the Chair of Label Sessions. In addition to SCAA, she is also a Board Trustee of The SSPCA. Helen’s plc executive career was predominately spent in financial services and retail, holding executive roles at RBS Group, CYBG, Virgin Money, Argos and Abbey (now Santander).

Myra Fulton

Myra Fulton is the Vice President of Engineering at Skyscanner, where she leads several engineering teams to deliver high-quality travel products to more than 100 million users each month worldwide. With 21 years of experience in the technology sector, Myra has a proven track record of driving innovation and excellence in product development, as well as growing world-class engineering teams. She actively champions initiatives that promote diversity in the workplace, ensuring that Skyscanner remains a place where everyone can thrive and contribute their best work.

Sean Cox

Trustee

Appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2024, Sean brings a decade of experience in finance and investments to both the SCAA Board and Resources Sub Committee. Sean is a CFA Charterholder and a Client Director at Baillie Gifford, a large institutional investment manager in Edinburgh, where he balances his time servicing and building relationships with institutional investors across the UK and North America, amongst other managerial responsibilities. Before his career in investment management, Sean spent twelve years playing rugby union professionally in England and Scotland, demonstrating the leadership and teamwork skills that complement his role as a trustee. Sean's combination of high-performance experience in professional sports and financial acumen, brings a unique perspective to the charity's governance, helping to ensure the sustainability of SCAA's vital emergency response service.

Mike Stewart

Trustee

Mike spent 17 years as a Royal Air Force Pilot where he participated on many operational tours as well as being a trainer and examiner. Mike also spent four years on overseas exchange, flying with and training the Royal Australian Air Force. Mike is now an Airline Captain at Jet2 This follows a busy decade being a Management Pilot for Jet2. Mike also runs and manages a small Christmas tree farm in Fife.

David Craig

Chief Executive

Appointed as Chief Executive in September 2015, David has over 25 years’ experience within the charity sector, 15 years as a CEO along with other senior leadership roles. He is a former trustee and chair of the fundraising committee of Bliss, the UK charity for premature and sick babies and during his five years in office helped to establish Bliss Scotland. Prior to joining the third sector, he worked in a variety of roles for a major hospitality and leisure public limited company.

Criona Knight

Director of Development and Engagement

Criona has worked for over 15 years in the fundraising sector. Initially specialising in corporate partnerships she then recognised the synergy across partnerships and philanthropic space particularly in engaging with funders to further organisational aims and objectives. Criona is committed to supporting donors to have a meaningful impact on the causes they care about. At SCAA she will head up the fundraising and comms team, using fundraising strategy to enable organisational growth. This growth will support our ambition that: ‘In Scotland, no one should die because help can’t get there in time’.

Simon Phillips

Director of Corporate Services

Simon has over 11 years’ experience in various roles in the charity sector. In addition, Simon has worked in senior roles in the private and public sector during his career. As part of his role with SCAA, Simon oversees the finance, facilities, HR, administration and operations functions.
