80-year-old Claudia Nicholson is set to complete her 100 Miles in October challenge for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance after just 10 days.
Claudia, who lives in Strontian, Lochaber, was inspired to take on our challenge in efforts to support our life-saving service.
“This fundraising walk isn’t about me,” she said. “We never know when any one of us, or our loved ones, may be in a situation where SCAA could be called.
“There are many of us, particularly those in rural areas, who are more than grateful for the speed, efficiency and expertise that the SCAA crew provide.”
As a former community district nurse midwife, Claudia admits the SCAA helicopters are a frequent sight in and around Lochaber. She immediately registered for our October challenge after seeing it announced on our Facebook page.
Claudia joins hundreds of other fundraisers throughout the country taking on 100 Miles in October for SCAA, proudly donning their free challenge t-shirts.
With over £800 raised through her JustGiving page and cash donations, Claudia is ‘humbled’ by the support and generosity she has received thus far.
In just 10 days – including a day off walking – Claudia has hit her final 100th mile. She invited friends to join her for the last mile ending at a local café.
As well as supporting SCAA, Claudia admits the challenge has been a great motivator for her to be out walking for longer. “I feel a lot stronger now after less than a fortnight walking,” she commented.
She opted to complete her miles mostly throughout her local area, and even had a high vis overall made for the challenge.
She said: “I’m really enjoying the challenge and wanted to do my bit to help SCAA.
“Living in remote and rural communities here in the Highlands and Islands, we are all well aware of how valuable this wonderful charity is.
“If you see me walking, please come say ‘Hi,’ and of course, any wee cash donation will be greatly appreciated.”
